Promoting Community Wellness

Creating a healthier, safer, and more informed community through dedication and rigor

Who We Are

Public Protection Alliance holds companies accountable: we believe that community wellness is achieved through responsibility, visibility, and honesty.

Promoting community wellness requires rigorous oversight of retail chemical standards. We focus on the systematic enforcement of California’s Proposition 65 to mitigate the risk of involuntary toxic exposure. By pursuing legal compliance, we provide the necessary pressure for industries to adopt safer business protocols and prioritize consumer health.

What is Prop 65?

California Proposition 65, or the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law requiring businesses to warn consumers about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. It requires a warning label on products, in homes/workplaces, or in environments containing listed chemicals.

Public Protection Alliance enforces Prop 65 to safeguard citizens from harmful toxins present in everyday items.

Your Questions, Answered

  • We adhere to a rigorous, multistep process to identify, test, and assess products.

We work with a network of accredited independent laboratories, toxicology experts, and legal teams to ensure that every product is analyzed carefully and thoroughly.

  • The real answer is that we focus on anything and everything. We believe that all consumer products should show the proper warnings, allowing consumers to make complete, informed purchasing decisions.

A few examples of products we focus on include: food and beverages, apparel, and cosmetic products.

  • As there are over 1000 Prop 65 chemicals currently listed, we try to prioritize toxins we find to be the most prevalent in everyday products, such as:

    Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury)

    Aflatoxins

    PFAS

  • If we sent you a notice of violation, that indicates that one or more of your products was determined to be in violation of Prop 65.

Our aim is to keep the public protected and informed: we want to work with you and make sure that your product is compliant with California law. Please respond to the notice as soon as you can so we can collaborate and work toward a resolution.
